6th Roundtable Stakeholders on CAP Reform

26 March 2012
OPERA Events

OPERA organized its 6th Roundtable on the CAP reform under the umbrella of the Forum for the Future of Agriculture 2012, one of the most important early conferences in agriculture taking place in Brussels. The roundtable was focused on research priorities and respectively on policy framework for innovation for agriculture in the EU, in the context of CAP and next programming framework for research.

Research, innovation and development are considered key priorities for the future CAP by the EU institutions and equally by the stakeholders. However, the priorities for these activities are not yet set and they need to be discussed.

OPERA took this opportunity to launch a new initiative: Sustainable Intensive Agriculture Network which will build up to be a think tank to identify and promote solutions to meet the food security and sustainability challanges faced by agriculture. The think tank will stimulate the exchange between scientists, stakeholders and policy makers.

Distinguished speakers from the European Parliament, European Commission and stakeholders provided their insights on the subject of the Roundtable, in three distinct sessions:

Session I - European research priorities for competitiveness and sustainability

Session II – Policy instruments to stimulate development

Session III – Launch of the SIA Network
