Meeting of the OPERA Informal Expert Group on SUD on the 14th of June 2010 in Brussels.OPERA invites all the stakeholders involved in the discussions on SUD implementation from MS, The European Commission, Plant protection products industry, NGO’ s, International organisations, scientific research institutes to exchange information on the already started process of implementation. We seek to share good practice, hear opinions and also to identify areas where further guidance is needed to ensure successful implementation of the Directive and to avoid scientific and technical inconsistencies.
The Informal Expert Group on SUD on 14th June has been successfully debated on the important aspects related to the implementation of the Directive in the Member States. Participants had the chance to exchange opinions and to report on their latest activities related to the subject. We have listened to interesting and various presentations depicting different angles to the common objective of achieving a successful implementation of the European legislation. We had the pleasure to welcome a strong participation of all stakeholder groups. More than 60 representatives from the different parts of the stakeholders’ spectrum like farmers' associations, European Commission, NGOs, agri-food chain companies, academia, member state authorities, etc. have actively contributed to the works of the conference. The different contributions presented the status of the transposition of Sustainable Use Directive in different countries and providing analysis from multiple points of view and interest. Other presentations and the debate that followed stimulated the comparison of available innovative and alternative solutions applied or available in various countries. The successful conclusion of the conference and large interest from the participants established a strong basis for further OPERA initiatives, activities and events in this complex domain.
